For this assignment I was required to create my own version of a chair from a wooden board of just one square meter, using just a waterjet cutter. This meant that any type of adhesives were also not allowed. Furthermore, I was not allowed to base my design on any existing product, meaning the shape had to be constructed completely.
With these requirements I decided to focus on ergonomics, which eventually led to creating a kneeling chair, since there was not enough material to create a backrest. I also decided to make it adjustable.
All of these requirements and just a week of time led the creation to the chair on the right. If given the time for a second iteration I would first focus on use cases, mainly getting into the chair before working on aesthetics. A quick concept for a second iteration can be seen below.
