I was tasked by Enver to first find out why children from a low-income neighborhood in Rotterdam were not exercising as much as they should and to design something that would solve this problem.
Through my investigations, I learned that parents actually preferred their children to stay indoors because the neighborhood itself was not safe enough. There were however many community centers that provided a safe place with supervision, which were unpopular due to the children
not taking a liking to the constant supervision by
adults.
Community centers will receive instructions on how to build unique structures in their specific space. Children get the opportunity to be part of the building process, from voting on the type of activities the structure enables, like football and VR, to creating the art on the side panels during graffiti workshops.
Children get a chance to relax behind panels and show of their skills when they want to be seen.

I also learned that children are more eager to
participate in casual sports if they are already
among their peers.
Because of this, my goal became to
design a low a budget solution
to make children feel
at home within
community
centers.
